The Experience section of a CV needs to be very brief but at the same time comprehensive in the information it delivers. You need only cover the last ten years you have worked.

Experience / Career History
List your most recent appointment first and work backwards. List your title, company name and dates employed.

  • Use bullet points to help outline information
  • Bullet points sell your key information quickly
  • Bullet points are easy to read

If only one employment period is shown on your CV, a paragraph about their market and product can be beneficial.

Begin with your most recent or current employment first.

To the left of the page list your job title, below this write your employers name. Don't forget to add employment dates.

Now add a brief description of your role or the typical market the company supplies. If you have only had one job or your last role has taken up the best part of ten years, expand this line to a paragraph and detail how you fit in to the company. Adding some figures for the company such as turnover or number of employees is also beneficial here.

Next use bullet points to list the most important functions of your role. Begin the sentence with a verb and write in the third person. Depending on how many jobs you have had in the last ten years spread the number of bullet points out.

For one job in ten years use a maximum of eight bullets that use two or three lines.

For two jobs begin with six bullets and maybe four or five for your previous job.

For three or more jobs begin with a maximum of five bullets and reduce this number as you work backwards.

It is important to write your bullet points in a very specific way to give them maximum impact. One of our professional authors can assist you with this.
